Slate Designer - Kevin Thomas

Kevin Thomas was born in Neath, South Wales in 1974, and has been a mechanical engineer for 20 years 7 of which were spent with the Royal Engineers. On leaving the forces Kevin re-trained as a Microsoft systems engineer, but returned to mechanical engineering as a CNC programmer and was subsequently offered a job as a manufacturing engineer in a Japanese automotive company which included travelling to Japan over a three year period. After further night school training, he decided to get out of the rat race and concentrate on doing something he actually enjoyed doing. He invested in a laser machine whilst still working as an engineer and found that it gave excellent results on slate. Welsh Slate at that! Therefore using his experience as a mechanical engineer and computer technician he was able to explore his creative side by designing and making a slate home ware collection.
