Arts, Crafts & Coffee Shop - The Denbigh Carriageworks Project

The Denbigh Carriageworks Project

The Denbigh Carriageworks Project in Love Lane, Denbigh, North Wales is a must-see destination for all visitors visiting Denbigh town, whether as a local, or tourist, or visitor from the surrounding villages of the Vale Of Clwyd.

The Carriageworks Project Denbigh, was born out of a vibrant creative community spirit, Lynne Wilson identified an opportunity to work with the local creative community to offer a unique hands on, integrated and supported community project that also has the full support of the landlords. The Carriageworks is an historic Denbigh building, having once been a repair garage for carriages. The high ceilings makes this a superb building for the community art and craft space it has now become.

The Denbigh Carriageworks is now home to a community project, art space, coffee shop, craft shop and a range of tailored creative workshops.

More importantly The Carriageworks in Denbigh is an inspiring meeting place for creative people to get together and share their stories with their community and tourists. It is a thriving hub of activity and hope.

Lynne Wilson's background stems from community regeneration and youth work projects, having worked with the Open University for over 20 years. Lynne is well versed in knuckling down to create opportunities at grass root level that encourages communities to work together to embrace new business ideas, collaborative projects, with community integration at its heart, to  prevent isolation and other health and social problems.

Isolation within towns is a troubling side effect of the retreating High Street, not only in terms of businesses, but for the local people who no longer travel and mix with others in their own locality, High Street and community. This can lead to total withdrawal from society and causes an increase in mental illness due to loneliness. The Carriageworks in Denbigh aims to challenge this and openly encourages a drop-in-and-chat policy.

The Denbigh Carriageworks Art Space and Coffee Shop embraces the interaction between customers, visitors, volunteers and the creative artists who display and sell from the Carriageworks Art Gallery space, encouraging new connections and networks. .

The Carriageworks Craft Shop and Workshop is a Social Enterprise CIC, that offers valuable, supportive and inexpensive ways to local craft people and talented makers and artists to sell their wares and creations to the local community and Denbigh town visitors.

Workshops are run by volunteers, professionals and artists in small groups and are tailored to the requirements and needs of the group.

The Carriageworks CIC also works with charities and social services, offering opportunities to those who have suffered an illness and would otherwise be isolated, housebound and lonely due to reduced social interaction.

As there are ongoing projects and events within The Denbigh Carriageworks, please stay in touch with Lynne Wilson, who will keep you posted through blogs and social media.

The Carriageworks Denbigh Art Space Gallery, Craft Shop and Coffee Shop are open Friday, Saturday and Monday 11 - 4 and on Sunday, 11 - 3pm. Watch out for additional summer opening times once festivals and events in Denbigh Town begin.

If you have any ideas around this social enterprise project at The Carriageworks in Denbigh, or would like to showcase or volunteer then please contact Lynne directly at [email protected], or give call her on 07734 082690.
